Good Times in Jamaica

We  had a wonderful time on our trip home in February.  Visiting with family and friends is always a highlight for us as well as eating some good food and seeing some beautiful places.

This year we had three families from Seattle join us for one week.  It was a new and different experience for me.  I had some anxiety about it but I was also excited to show them the place where I grew up.  Here are just a handful of my favourite moments.

Long Time

I hope you can all forgive me for neglecting my blog, my clients, my friends and my faithful readers.  Heading to Jamaica I was hoping to give you a post every two to three days.  When that didn’t happen I figured you deserved a good post on our return to Seattle.  When that didn’t happen I knew I would have to grovel.

I’m back my friends with some really fun and exciting changes.  It’s all in the works (things that will probably take another 3-4 months to complete) but the process has begun.  We came back from Jamaica to see our new home office complete and looking as beautiful as ever.  We are working on a logo and some branding for Phillipa D. Photography, along with a whole new look and a new approach to this blog.  My hope is to do one big reveal with a couple of sneak peaks here and there.

Your first sneak peak is our new quiet office space.

We’ll talk about Jamaica the next time we meet.

Who Are You Following?

Are you going to be watching the Winter Olympics?  Is there an athlete that you are following closely?  Coming from a warm island like Jamaica there are very few moments for us at this time of the year.  Yes, we’ve had the Bobsled Team and no they will not be there for the 2010 games.  This year the Jamaicans were hoping to follow a young man named Errol Kerr.  For the Seattle folks, many of us are following Apolo

Here are just a few images of him as he passed through town.

Time to Model

I’m not sure how many of you remember me telling you about a workshop I attended in June ’09.  It was a workshop with Me Ra Koh Photography and it was amazing because it was the workshop that gave me the confidence to start my business.  Well I had the opportunity to be apart of her workshop again.  Except this time I got to take my family along with me.

This meant so much to me, Me Ra snapping away at my kids and the opportunity to have some very talented ladies taking pictures of ME with my kids.  I’m sure many of you have the “main” photographer in your household.  Well, I am the ONLY photographer in my household.  Trust me a tripod, a 2 year old and a 14-month old just does not work.

Here’s an image and the link to her write up on the Seattle Confidence Workshop.  Once I get more images from our photo session, I promise to share.

Did You Miss Me?

Forgive me for not being around, I haven’t forgotten you.  I learnt a lot over the last three weeks.  With my computer getting sick and contracting a virus, I realized how important this tool is to my business.  If my husband wasn’t travelling I would use his laptop to try to catch up on emaisl but I just never got enough time to sit and talk to you all.  I missed giving you updates or showing you the next fabulous family that I had the opportunity to work with.  I now have a great appreciation for the men and women that understand the complexities of a computer.  It also made me realize that a Mac may be in my future.

Tonight I leave you with some of my favourite images of the holiday season.  Don’t worry we’re only 26 days into the new year and I promise you haven’t missed anything…I can tell you that you’re going to love Liam’s new hair cut, just wait and see.

Ring in the New

Tim and I have a New Years Eve tradition that we’ve been doing now for 6 years.  To celebrate the beginning of a new year we leave the city of Seattle for a destination that is in driving distance.  We’ve had the pleasure of going to Victoria, Portland, Eugene, Lake Quinault, and Fall City (twice).

This year I am ashamed to say that I do not have one photograph to show you, but this one, a picture taken on Christmas Eve.  This was the gift that I won/received at our white elephant exchange.  Why is it important to the New Year.  Well we headed out to Fall City again this year and David (my brother-in-law) and I decided we would add another 10 bottles and go for a taste around the world.

Wishing you all a blessed 2010.

Thanks!

What are you thankful for?  And I don’t mean the obvious things like family and friends.  Here’s my short list.

1.  I’m thankful for the Christmas ornament sent to me by my sister – it reminds me of home

2.  I’m thankful for Airborne – have you tried it.  It works

3.  I’m thankful for hugs, they just fix everything.

4.  I’m thankful for Christmas lights.

5.  I’m thankful for promotion codes.  It makes that purchase just a little bit easier

6.  I’m thankful for my workouts – spinning, swimming and running

7.  I’m thankful for the clothes that no longer fit me…due to my workouts

8.  I’m thankful for sunny days

9.  I’m thankful for blog readers…you keep me going

10.  I’m thankful for my camera

We Gave A Shoe Box

For the last 10 years I’ve had the priviledge to fill a shoe box or two  The brain child of Samaritan’s Purse  is a program called Operation Christmas Child.  I love what they do.  It’s such a simple yet effective way to give over the Christmas season.  Choose an age and gender, purchase items that will fit in a shoe box, donate a little money for shipping, drop the box or boxes off at a local church and know that by Christmas a child in a third world country will be enjoying the box you filled.

Here’s a good story for you.  One of the reasons I decided to do this program was because I knew that shoe boxes would end up in Jamaica.  Three years after filling my first box, I was living in Massachusetts and I did my annual Christmas donation.   This time I put a note in the box.  Well fast forward one year, I was now living in Seattle, and a letter had tracked me down.  It was a letter from the little girl who had received my shoe box and she was from – Jamaica.  How amazing is it that my shoe box would end up in hills of my island home.  I cried like a baby the first time I read her letter.
