Hitched

Do you guys remember that lovely couple I photographed back in December (Don’t They Look Like Movie Stars)?  Well I am thrilled to announce that they were married in July on a beautiful Friday afternoon in Edmonds, WA.   It was a small intimate setting on the roof of the Edmonds Library, a location that had an amazing view of the Olympics and the daily commute of the ferry.  it was an honor to capture their special day.  Congratulations Risa and Jeff – wishing you both a lifetime of blessings.

Long Time

I hope you can all forgive me for neglecting my blog, my clients, my friends and my faithful readers.  Heading to Jamaica I was hoping to give you a post every two to three days.  When that didn’t happen I figured you deserved a good post on our return to Seattle.  When that didn’t happen I knew I would have to grovel.

I’m back my friends with some really fun and exciting changes.  It’s all in the works (things that will probably take another 3-4 months to complete) but the process has begun.  We came back from Jamaica to see our new home office complete and looking as beautiful as ever.  We are working on a logo and some branding for Phillipa D. Photography, along with a whole new look and a new approach to this blog.  My hope is to do one big reveal with a couple of sneak peaks here and there.

Your first sneak peak is our new quiet office space.

We’ll talk about Jamaica the next time we meet.

Time to Model

I’m not sure how many of you remember me telling you about a workshop I attended in June ’09.  It was a workshop with Me Ra Koh Photography and it was amazing because it was the workshop that gave me the confidence to start my business.  Well I had the opportunity to be apart of her workshop again.  Except this time I got to take my family along with me.

This meant so much to me, Me Ra snapping away at my kids and the opportunity to have some very talented ladies taking pictures of ME with my kids.  I’m sure many of you have the “main” photographer in your household.  Well, I am the ONLY photographer in my household.  Trust me a tripod, a 2 year old and a 14-month old just does not work.

Here’s an image and the link to her write up on the Seattle Confidence Workshop.  Once I get more images from our photo session, I promise to share.

All About Learnfest

Sixty four eager photographers were split up into four groups for four days, they would spend four hours with each of the four fantastic photographers.

What an incredible time I had in Atlanta.  I learnt sooooooo much that I’m struggling a little to get it all pulled together.  I took the opportunity to attend this workshop to really help me take my business to the next level.  What I learnt was so much more.  Something I’m not able to describe in words.  It’s an emotion, a vision of what I’d like my brand to look like, it’s a desire of what I’d like my clients to be a part of.

I have a lot to get done over the next few months and I hope you’ll all hangout while I take this journey to improve and give you the best product I can give.

Here are some pictures from our week.

Learnfest ’09

I will be heading to Atlanta, GA on Monday.  With the support of my amazing husband and the help of two wonderful friends I have been given the opportunity to attend a four day photography workshop called Learnfest.  This workshop is all about branding, marketing, workflow and anything else needed to run and operate a sucessful photography business.  I only discovered this workshop because I was doing my usual blog stalking.  This workshop is for newbies, like myself, and longtime photogs in the biz (I’m catching onto the lingo 🙂 ).

Four very talented ladies will be leading the troops.  Audrey Woulard, Tamara Lackey, Laura Novak and Lena  Hyde.  As a side note these are just four blogs out of (okay I wont go there) that I stalk on a daily basis.  I cannot wait to learn from these women.  I believe there will be over 60 participants broken up into four groups and we will be enjoying the grounds and food of Chateau Elan.  I look forward to meeting everyone and reporting back to my fans on my week.

To my sweet husband Tim, I love you and thank you so much for this very special birthday present.  I will miss you and the kids.  To Karen and Barbra, this could only be done because of friends like you.

Tacoma PUG

No, I did not buy a dog.  But I did attend my first Pictage User Group meeting.  PUG is made up of a group of professional photographers that use Pictage.  If you’re not up for checking out what they are then book a session with me and that is how you’ll view and share your photographs.  As a newbie it was a little intimidating, however I did have the support of some of my Seattle Sistas and the wonderful Me Ra and Brian

The evening started out with a little food and mingle time.  Then the guest speakers, The Youngrens, gave a wonderful talk on being a “Rock Star” photographer and focusing on your own authenticity.  We ended the evening with more food and more time to meet some really talented folks in the biz.

I walked away with a lot, the biggest thing, confidence!  See you all next month.

Seattle Sistas Featured

GroupShots-2[1]

I did a workshop back in June with the fabulous Me Ra Koh and her always hilarious husband Brian.  It was this workshop that inspired me to “go for it” to take the plunge and start my own business.   One of the things that Me Ra said that has truly inspired me and stuck with me to this day is that as photographers we are artistis.

I encourage you to go to her blog and to read about the women that were in this workshop.  Many of these ladies have started a business or already had a photography business.  I know you will enjoy their art.
